Facilities

The house of the Alvarella Hostel is a prime example of early Galician rationalist architecture, designed in the 1940s by the A Coruña architect Antonio Tenreiro. It was restored, preserving the original project and structure of the house, to convert it into an inn with four double rooms, each with a bathroom.

It features a dining room, a library room, a gallery-viewpoint, a kitchen, and a covered porch. Located on a 50,000 m² property surrounded by a lush forest, and just a stone’s throw away from hundreds of places to visit.

Our plot includes facilities for all services, serving as a connection between all common areas for a complete experience: from an adventurous getaway full of activities and learning, to a peaceful retreat in nature with long, calm walks and relaxation. Everything you need is here!

Rooms

The hostel has 12 rooms, each with 4-5 sleeping spaces, private bathroom, and heating, offering full accessibility. Two of these rooms are fully adapted for people with disabilities (with larger bathrooms and a retractable bunk bed for extra space). The bathrooms are en-suite and have integrated showers for maximum privacy and comfort. The underfloor heating system with its own thermostat allows guests to adjust the temperature to their preference. The rooms feature two bunk beds and a sofa bed for 1 or 2 people. Each room has a small table with stools and several wardrobes with drawers for guests to organise their belongings as needed.

The house

The house has been restored, preserving its original structure to convert it into an inn with four double rooms, each with a private bathroom. Three of the rooms have a double bed, and the other has two single beds. One of the double rooms features a very quiet and sunny gallery. There are various common areas, including a dining room, a small library room, a gallery-viewpoint, a kitchen, and a covered porch.

Palleira

This is a space in the hostel that functions as a multi-purpose room, where you can both enjoy various traditional games from our folk culture and watch the best cinema on the large screen with the sound system. You can also hold meetings, organise lunches or gatherings, or even practice sports with the table tennis or the climbing wall on one of the exterior walls (prior reservation with instructors). Aiming to provide maximum comfort at any time of year, this facility is equipped with a pellet boiler that provides heat, allowing you to fully enjoy this space even in winter.

Learning building

Our concern for nature and the environment led us to ensure that the new building of the hostel maintained environmental consistency and was a unique structure that embodied the principles of sustainability, without losing an ounce of the charm and simplicity of the rural setting in which it is immersed. The ecological criteria we follow in our constructions are outlined below.

Bioclimatic

Bioclimatic buildings take into account the morphology of the location, the climate, and the orientation of the area in which they are built: harmoniously integrated into the environment, facing south, and considering the local climate.

Bioconstruction

Bioconstruction aims to use natural materials, sourced locally, renewable, reusable, and recyclable, to minimise the impact on the natural environment and enable sustainable development: situated in the right location, applying passive solar architecture, and using materials that prioritise natural resources.

Biosustainable

Biosustainable buildings aim to avoid depleting natural resources or altering the environment so that future generations will inherit a livable world: seeking energy efficiency, implementing a waste treatment programme, and managing water and light resources rationally.

Dining room

The dining room has a capacity of 72 people.

The plot

The plot covers approximately 50,000 square metres, dedicated to agricultural and forestry uses, with various native species and numerous fruit trees. It serves as the link between common areas such as the swimming pool, dining room, ‘palleira’, barbecue, sports court, traditional games area, and large green spaces.

Thousands of corners where you can lose yourself and connect directly with nature. Don’t settle for a photo, come and discover them for yourself!

Swimming pool

The swimming pool is open only during the summer season. It is located within the hostel grounds, to the south of the house, in a very sunny area, and is fenced off in several places with trees to provide both sunny and shaded areas. The shallowest area is 1 metre deep, and it reaches 1.6 metres at its deepest, so a lifeguard is not required, but adult supervision is necessary when young children are swimming.
